The memory of Soviet citizens who died during World War II has been honored in France, TASS reports. The funeral ceremony was organized in the Oise department, where the largest Soviet military burial is located.

The remains of more than 4,500 Soviet soldiers who died in the struggle for the liberation of Europe from fascism are buried there.

Representatives of the diplomatic missions of Russia, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Belarus, Azerbaijan and other countries gathered near the Flowers of Freedom monument, which was erected 20 years ago at the initiative of the Russian Embassy. Representatives of the French veteran associations and the mayor of Noyers-Saint-Martin, Jacques Teinel, also laid flowers to the monument.

Russian Ambassador Alexei Meshkov highly appreciated how the local residents cared about the monuments. The French take care of the graves of Soviet soldiers, and in France there have never been attacks by vandals. Meshkov hopes this tradition will continue in the future.

The French participants in the event are sure that it is important to continue to honor the memory of Soviet citizens who died in France.
