The memory of Nicholas the Second and his relatives was honored in the Balkans, the Russian House in Belgrade reports in its Telegram channel. Church services and memorial events in honor of the royal martyrs were held in various cities of Serbia, Montenegro and the Republika Srpska. They were timed to coincide with July 17 - the anniversary of the massacre of the last Russian emperor and his family.

In Serbia, Nicholas the Second is considered the savior of the people and the state during the First World War. The Serbs keep the memory of how Russia then acted in defense of their country, the emperor personally made sure that the allied state received assistance. After the country was occupied in 1915 by Bulgaria, Austria-Hungary and Germany, when the Serbian army had to retreat and many residents left their homes, it was Nicholas the Second who took care of the fate of the refugees, forcing other countries to evacuate them.

Two years ago, members of the Russian-Serbian expedition completed research in Herzegovina, the purpose of which was to document the Russian cultural and historical heritage in the region. The expedition visited settlements and monasteries associated with the history of Russia in different centuries.
