Another cultural center, which bears the name of the writer Maxim Gorky, began to work in Ecuador. It opened in Guayaquil, three-million-people city, according to the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry. The city is considered one of the financial and economic centers of the country.

The opening ceremony of the center took place on July, 12. The idea to open the center came from members of the "Motherland and Culture" Ecuadorian society.

More than 150 people attended the event, including Russian compatriots living in Ecuador, diplomats, local politicians and cultural figures, as well as graduates of Russian and Soviet universities.

The speakers noted the importance of Russian culture for the inhabitants of the planet, and also supported Russia in a difficult period. Russian Ambassador to Ecuador Vladimir Sprinchan addressed the organizers and those present with words of gratitude for recognizing the importance of Russian literature and art in the global cultural process.

Last month, the Gorky Center began working in the capital of Ecuador.
