''Andrey Tarkovsky. Cinema as a Prayer'' documentary, released in honor of the 90th birthday of the outstanding Soviet film director, became one of the most viewed films during live screenings at the Russian Film Festival in Brazil, TASS reports.

Film screenings were held in a cinema in Sao Paulo, over 9,000 people attended them. In addition to the documentary about Tarkovsky, filmed by his son, the program included the sports drama "One Inhale" by Elena Khazanova, the comedies ''Desperate for Marriage'' by Sonya Karpunina, and "First Snow" by Natalia Konchalovskaya.

These and other films by Russian directors could be watched online for three weeks. According to Roskino General Director Anna Shalyto, the festival has demonstrated that the Brazilian audience is interested in both intellectual and entertainment cinema.

She noted that Latin Americans are the closest to Russians in terms of mentality and perception of culture. Anna Shalyto said that the issue of holding a similar festival in Mexico is now being resolved.
