Residents of Narva gathered near the monument to the T-34 tank the day before, Izvestia reports with reference to ERR. They wanted to prevent the demolition of the monument.

According to local media, there was a rumor in the city that the tank was going to be demolished.

Up to 200 people gathered near the monument. Many parked cars lined up on either side of the tank along the highway, stretching for about a kilometer in both directions. Journalists noted that ''nothing terrible'' happened, there were no speeches, ''just people are standing and waiting for something.''

A little later, the authorities reported that the information about the demolition of the monument was fake. They urged the resident not to resort to provocations.

Earlier, it became known that the Estonian authorities planned to rid the country of all the monuments that perpetuate the feat of the Soviet soldiers-liberators. There are 148 of them in Estonia.

Narva Mayor Katri Raik said the authorities had no plans to demolish or relocate the tank monument. She called it "a little sign of identity and pride" for Russian-speaking residents.
