More than half of the residents of a number of leading European states do not want the authorities to impose new sanctions against Russia if the restrictions cause negative consequences for the standard of living of Europeans. These are the data of the YouGov survey, in which almost 8,000 Europeans took part, RIA Novosti reports.

The study showed that the French are the most skeptical about anti-Russian sanctions.

63% of survey participants are convinced that the restrictions are an unjustified measure in view of the threats they pose to France itself. Only a little over 25% of the French surveyed are ready to endure a decline in the quality of life for the sake of putting pressure on Russia.

In Italy, the number of supporters of sanctions is the same, and opponents - almost 60%. In Germany and Spain, more than half of the study participants do not support the sanctions policy of their authorities.

In the UK, this figure is somewhat lower, but, as the survey showed, the number of opponents of anti-Russian sanctions exceeds the number of supporters of pressure on Moscow. The most belligerent position in Europe was taken by the Poles, but in that country, too, 45% of the population would like sanctions to be lifted.
