The United States of America has been "hunting down" Russian citizens abroad, which has been going on for decades. 58 cases of arrests of Russians have been recorded since 2008, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said, TASS reports.

The diplomat cited data regarding the arrests of Russians abroad on orders from Washington, and called what is happening a ''hunt'' for Russians by American diplomacy. Antonov drew attention to the fact that the world community and, in particular, human rights organizations turn a blind eye to this issue.

Earlier, Grigory Lukyantsev, spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, spoke about the US ''hunting'' for Russians around the world. He also admitted that the direction chosen by Washington was backed by its allies and vassals in different parts of the world, and the Russians are often detained for political reasons at the request of third countries.
