The P.I. Tchaikovsky International Charitable Foundation and the Muzyka Publishing House have launched a unique project to digitize the musical heritage of Russia. The project will start with the complete collections of works by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Mikhail Glinka, already available on the Tchaikovsky.pro website.
The task of the large-scale project is to preserve and make available to every music lover the works of outstanding Russian composers.
63 volumes of Tchaikovsky's works, as well as an 18-volume collection of works by Glinka are already available on the website of the Tchaikovsky Foundation.
The very effort of digitizing such a massive archive deserves respect, but, as the President of the Tchaikovsky Foundation Mark Zilberkvit said, an additional difficulty was that it was not easy to find even completely complete collections of works in good condition. As a result, the volumes had to be collected from different libraries.
The world's only complete collection of Tchaikovsky's works was published by the Muzyka publishing house quite a long time ago - in 1990 - and has not been republished since then. The very publication of the collection became a real cultural feat, since it took 50 (!) years to complete the edition - the work began back in 1940.
In the near future, the Tchaikovsky Foundation and its partners are planning to create digital versions of the collected works of Alexander Nikolayevich Scriabin and Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninoff, - his 150th anniversary will be celebrated in Russia in 2023.
