Efforts to Popularize Russian Language Underway in Bulgaria

12.09.2012

The participants of the public forum “Bulgaria and Russia in the 21st century: Spirituality – Education – Culture”, currently underway in Bulgaria, have discussed the popularization of the Russian language in the country and its role in the modern world.

A member of the Russian delegation, Viktor Buyanov, said that the Russkiy Mir Foundation was paying for the work of the Russian language teachers in many countries, creating study rooms and centres, where the work is being done to support the Russian language.

There are about 200 of them now. Bulgarian representatives said that the Russian language is being taught either as the first or second foreign language in local secondary schools. More than 200,000 out of 750,000 Bulgarian schoolchildren have given preference to it.
