Matryoshka and Russian traditional toy museum opens in Semenov

pixabay.comMatryoshka museum opens in Semenov town, Nizhegorodskaya Oblast, RIA Novosti reports. Semenov traditionally counts as the capital of Matryoshka production. This year traditional Russian doll celebrates 95th anniversary.

Typical Matryoshka made in Semenov wears yellow shawl and red sundress. Wooden beauty holds bunch of pretty flowers.

Matryoshka has become a symbol of Russia and has high popularity with tourists.

Semenov town exposition includes more than 700 showpieces. Except wooden beauties, there are knights, hussars, bogatуrs.

The very first Matryoshka doll appeared in Semenov in the beginning of 1920s. It was painted by little Liza from Merinovo village. Lated all the villains joint her, each master had his own particular style.

In the museum one could lear ne story of Matryoshka, find out its heritage, and its roots, see various painting styles.

It is planed that local masters will conduct master-classes on traditional Russian toys and dolls, including Matryoshka painting.
