Ukrainian authorities have to hold meetings with national minorities' representatives to prepare solutions that would support equal Linguistic rights within educational systems to all citizens of the country, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry. This statement has been voiced today by Director of the Information and Press Department of MFA Maria Zakharova, TASS reports.
She has reminded that the experts of Venice Commission has criticized some articles of the Ukrainian law on Education, in particular there is no solution for unofficial languages of the European Union, including Russian, the most widely-spread language in Ukraine that doesn't carry the status of a State language.
As we reported earlier, Venice Commission has remarked that such attitude to non-state languages can hardly be justified. The members of the committee are calling Ukraine for amending the law and making it more balanced regarding Russian language as a widely used non-state language.
MFA has reiterated its agreement with the Venice Commission's statements. It is important to to amend the provisions of the article No. 7, making them “more balanced and precise,” added MFA's representative.
She has also expressed hope that European Council is to monitor Ukrainian side's commitment to comply with recommendations of the Venice Commission.
