The Hermitage brought exhibition about Catherine the Great to Zagreb

An exhibition Catherine the Great, Empress of the Russian Empire was opened in Zagreb, Croatia. Household items of the Empress brought from the famous State Hermitage in Saint Petersburg are presented at the exhibition. Croatia’s President Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic was among the honored guests at the gala opening ceremony. 

The exhibition is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the twin-city relations between Zagreb and Saint Petersburg.

The Central Croatian gallery provided 24 halls for this exhibition. More than a thousand items were included into the exhibition collection including paintings, sculptures, weapons, garments, jewels, kitchen utensils – everything which might help visitors see the court life of the Catherine’s epoch, depict the Empress as an influential political figure of her time as an art admirer  and as a unique and educated woman.

The exhibition is divided into sections starting from the period when the future Empress arrived at Russia and until the last days of her life. The exposition reflects all important events of Catherine’s private life and of the Russian Empire overall.
