It's time to cancel sanctions against Russia, said Czech President Milos Zeman at the meeting with high-ranking Czech diplomats held on August 29 in Prague, TASS reports.

According to him, the restrictions affect both sides – Russia and the Western countries. Zeman assures that all kinds of sanctions carry negative consequences and result in nothing. The Czech leader recalled the US sanctions against Cuba as a vivid example of their futility. Washington used restrictions for decades to change the political regime in Havana but was not able to do anything.

Milos Zeman said that anti-Russian sanctions harm both Russia and Europe. He is convinced that Brussels does not need to extend them.

The President of the Czech Republic added that the Prime Minister supported his point of view. The Slovak, Hungarian, Italian and Austrian politicians also agree with him.

As Russkiy Mir reported, the new US sanctions came into force several days ago. They prohibit loans, the supply of dual-use products to Russia and imply other measures. The second sanction wave may follow three months later. It includes a possible decline in diplomatic relations, a ban on Aeroflot flights to the US and the almost complete cessation of US exports.
