Objects of Russian art to go under hammer in London

Russian week has opened on November 26 in the British capital, TASS reports. It is held by the largest auction houses twice a year - at the end of autumn and at the beginning of summer. Christie's, Sotheby's, MacDougall's and Bonhams participate in the Russian art auction.

Traditionally, the Russian Week starts at Christie's. Sunset in Venice by Aivazovsky with preliminary cost exceeds $770,000 is on auction. The painting enters the market for the first time in the last two decades.

Two works by Shukhaev, Self-Portrait in a gray smock and Portrait of Vera Shukhaeva (the artist’s wife) is going to be presented. Estimate price of each of them reaches $650,000.

The auction will sell a collection of Bakst works, including sketches of scenery, landscapes, portraits etc. Previously, collection was owned by the artists's descendants. 

Rare imperial porcelain vase to become another unique lot. The vase is decorated with a portrait of the Austrian emperor Franz I by Alexander Nesterov. Bidding will start with one million dollars.

Sotheby's will sell Makovsky's Blind Man's Bluff. The painting price may rise up to almost four million dollars. Niko Pirosmani admirers will be able to purchase his work Georgian Woman Wearing a Lechaki. Experts have assessed it more than $900,000. Pirosmani works are rate at auctions. In addition, the portrait of Leo Tolstoy (oil on linoleum) by Russian Peredvizhnik artist Ilya Repin to be at the auction as well.

MacDougall's top lot is Konchalovsky's work named The Game of Billiards. Aristarkh Lentulov and Petr Konchalovsky. Its preliminary cost is more than two and a half million dollars. Bonhams' top lot is a still life by Rozhdestvensky.
