Vladimir Zelensky called the cease-fire in Donbas his first task as President of Ukraine. He promised that for the sake of this he was ready to take unpopular steps and even lose his post, Gazeta.ru writes.

The solemn ceremony of the inauguration of the new Head of State was held on Monday, May 20, at Verkhovna Rada meeting. The new President took the oath, signed the relevant document and received the official symbols of power. In Ukraine, they are considered the presidential sign in the form of the order chain, the official stamp and mace.

His first decision at the post was the early dissolution of Parliament. Earlier it was planned that the elections of deputies will be held in October. Now they have only two months left to work.

Zelensky believes that it is necessary to abolish the immunity of people's representatives, to adopt a law on criminal responsibility for illegal enrichment, as well as an electoral code.

In addition, Zelensky noted that it is necessary to return the “lost territories”, which are, in his opinion, not only Donbass, but also the Crimea. He even spoke in Russian, referring to the residents of Donbass and Crimea, adding that they are “not foreign to Ukraine”. The President noted that he was ready for a dialogue on a cease-fire in Donbass, while insisting on the return of prisoners.
