The days of Russian culture, which take place in Latvia for the ninth year in a row, are devoted to two anniversaries at once this year, Sputnik news agency reports. Together with the entire cultural world, the Baltic republic celebrates the anniversary of Aleksandr Pushkin. In addition, it marks 230 years since the emergence of Russian-language education.

A special stamp was issued in honor of the anniversary of the Russian school education. It can become a philatelic rarity, as the number of copies is only one and a half hundred copies.

According to one of the leaders of the organizing committee, historian Vlad Bogov, when the tradition of the festival of Russian culture was revived after a long break, and this happened only in 2011, it was necessary to persuade the creative teams to join the holiday.

Today, he notes, the situation has changed dramatically: there are so many applications that it is very difficult to draw up a program, fitting all the performances there.

The organizer notes that the existence of the festival for almost a decade proves that its main goals – educational and integrative - have been successfully achieved.

The festival proves that the Russian diaspora in Latvia can hold large-scale events throughout the country in very different formats. This activity is not hampered by the lack of support from the authorities, who have never allocated any funds for holding a cultural forum.

Days of Russian culture are usually held in autumn and spring, their program includes exhibitions, concerts and excursions. The Latvians’ interest in the events rises from year to year.
