Russian-American Fort Ross Dialogue Forum held in San Francisco

The Fort Ross Dialog was held on October 6 in San Francisco, TASS reports. The Russian-American has been held every year for almost ten years. Fort Ross Conservation Society is its organizer. The conference participants were politicians of two countries and current and former statesmen. They were joined by Russian and American businessmen.

According to the ambassador of the Russian Federation Anatoly Antonov, it is very important that the forum had a wide representation. At the same time, it is disappointing that there were few officials from the State Department or Congress.

The participants focused on strategic stability issues. Today, there are a lot of difficulties in this area, and these rubble needs to be cleared, Antonov says. The diplomat noted that overseas colleagues supported the Russians in this effort. He recalled that the Treaty on Measures to Further Reduce and Limit Strategic Offensive Arms would cease to be in effect after a year, and it was necessary to discuss how to live in the new conditions. The ambassador expressed the hope that the agreement would be extended, and both parties would think about additional confidence building measures.

The conversation turned out to be informative and open. Representatives of both countries agreed that they needed to meet more often, many speakers emphasized the need for friendship with Russia. The head of Sberbank German Gref noted that there were few similar sites where Russia and America could discuss issues that complicated bilateral cooperation.

Russkiy Mir reported that the Russian-American conference became an annual tradition. Politicians, cultural figures, experts in various fields, journalists, political scientists from both countries take part in it. Within the framework of the forum, discussions and seminars are held on the main issues of the bilateral agenda and economic issues, interactions in various fields are discussed.

Fort Ross is a former Russian settlement and fortress, it currently has the status of a historic California state park and a national landmark. The fort, located on the steep Pacific coast, was founded at the beginning of the nineteenth century by the tradesman from the county town of Totma, Vologda province, Ivan Kuskov.
