Immortal Regiment launches competition for schoolchildren

The competition for schoolchildren called Great-Grandchildren of Winners was announced by the Immortal Regiment movement, the Russian Education website reports.

According to representatives of the social movement, the current research competition has gained international status. Russians and residents of other countries aged 11 to 18 years can take part in the competition.

The main task of the competition is to preserve the memory of the ancestors who participated in the Great Patriotic War. The competition will also help to ensure continuity of generations and will contribute to the development of archival skills.

Applications are accepted until mid-March. Children are invited to conduct a study of the labor or military during the war of a veteran and write an essay about it. The children need to study materials from the open archives of the defense department, get acquainted with the press of the war period, letters, documents, photographs stored in the home archive.

Authors of the best essays will be invited to come to Moscow and will join the procession of the Immortal Regiment on Red Square on Victory Day.

The competition is organized by the Immortal Regiment of Russia with the assistance of the Ministry of Education, the Search Movement of Russia, the Volunteer of Victory organization, MIA Rossiya Segodnya and the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War.
