The initiative group of the Russian-speaking youth of Riga organized a systematic assistance to the elderly people in Riga. Twenty volunteers, who responded to the appeal on Facebook, go shopping for older residents of Riga, walk their dogs and fulfill other requests, Rubaltic.ru reports.

The action was initiated by Zhanna Karelina, who created the You are not Alone Against COVID-19 Facebook page in Russian and Latvian. The initiative was quickly supported by the users of the social network. According to Karelina, at first the number of offers for help exceeded the number of requests. For example, one of the clothing stores offered to sew protective masks for volunteers.

Those who need help write their address and the request on the social network. The volunteers leave the groceries near the doors, without personal contacts.

In addition to shopping, volunteers buy medicine, help pay bills and walk the dogs. Professional dog handlers, who have joined the action, help with walking.
