A group of travelers, scientists and journalists set off on a unique expedition called By the Path of Pioneers. The participants intend to repeat the routes of Russian travelers of the 14th - 19th centuries, who paved the way from the European part of the country to Asia. The expedition will pass through six regions of Russia and end in Salekhard in December, according to the website of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS).

The start of the expedition, timed to coincide with the 175th anniversary of RGS, took place in the Kostroma region. Travelers will go by waterways (like their predecessors) through the territory of the Vologda and Arkhangelsk regions, the Komi Republic, the Nenets and Yamalo-Nenets autonomous districts.

According to the organizers of the expedition, its purpose was to explore remote corners of Russia and promote scientific programs. The participants of the trip are convinced that the discoveries that will be made will contribute to the development of Siberia and the Far East.

In the future, the expeditions can be continued in Yakutia, the Far East, Chukotka, Kamchatka and the Kuril Islands. The RGS notes that the journey opens a large project to explore all the main routes continued by the discoverers of Russian lands.
