The Salzburg Festival is celebrating its centenary this year, the Kultura TV channel reports. One of the most famous events of not only European but also world cultural life attracts the attention of the public every year. Unfortunately, the organizers had to shorten the program of the anniversary forum due to restrictions aimed at countering the spread of coronavirus infection.
The festival started on August 1. This year, the famous Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko will perform for classical vocals admirers. Together with her, her husband, the famous tenor Yusif Eyvazov, will appear on the stage. Mikhail Tatarnikov is going to be the only Russian conductor in Salzburg this year. He will stand at the console of the Mozarteum - the oldest symphony orchestra. Tatarnikov called the festival one of the summits of world music. According to the conductor, participating in it is a great honor and responsibility.
The concert dedicated to the 180th anniversary of Pyotr Tchaikovsky will feature excerpts from the Queen of Spades, Eugene Onegin, Iolanta operas and the Sleeping Beauty ballet.
Maestro Valery Gergiev performed in front of the Salzburg Festival audience last year. He conducted the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra during the premiere of Verdi's opera Simon Boccanegra.
