Russian Oscar-winning director celebrates 75th birthday

The famous Russian director Nikita Mikhalkov celebrates his 75th anniversary on Wednesday, October 21, the MIR TV channel reports. His first appeearance in the cinema took place when he was a 14-year-old boy. Now he has about 90 films on his account, many prizes and awards.

Nikita Mikhalkov made his film debut as an actor in the early sixties. The Walking the Streets of Moscow movie instantly brought him fame. Then the future Oscar winner had other roles in different films. His directorial work was included in the golden fund of Soviet and Russian cinema: At Home among Strangers, A Slave of Love, Five Evenings, A Few Days in the Life of I.I. Oblomov. Nikita Mikhalkov is involved in social activities a lot, he is the head of the Russian Union of Cinematographers.

In many of his films, the director starred himself. Among these roles are the juror in the drama 12, the division commander Kotov in Burnt by the Sun, Alexander III in The Barber of Siberia.

Colleagues are sure that Mikhalkov-actor is as interesting and effective as Mikhalkov-director. For almost all of his films, he writes scripts himself. The director often adapts Russian literature: Chekhov, Goncharov, Bunin.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree conferring the title of Hero of Labor on Nikita Mikhalkov. The actor and director was noted for special merits in the development of national culture, art and many years of fruitful work.
