Russian citizens included Alexander Pushkin, Mikhail Lermontov and Sergei Yesenin in the top three of their favorite poets. These are the results of a study conducted by specialists from the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM). The survey was timed to coincide with Pushkin's Memorial Day.

Wednesday, February 10, marks 184 years since the poet's death.

Almost 80%of the respondents are sure that the greatest poet in the world is Alexander Pushkin. More than 40% of the survey participants included Mikhail Lermontov among the greatest, 37% - Sergei Yesenin. Compatriots called these classics of Russian literature their favorites.

Most often, the respondents recalled "Eugene Onegin", "Ruslan and Lyudmila", "The Captain's Daughter" and "The Tale of Tsar Saltan". The Russians consider Pushkin's lines "I remember a wonderful moment ..." to be the most famous poem. Of the proposed quatrains, almost 90% of the respondents correctly named the author of these lines.
