Preparations have begun for the filming of a feature film about the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Empire and the first ruler of independent Greece, Ioannis Kapodistrias. The film will be a joint project of Russia, Greece and Switzerland, directed by the Greek Yannis Smaragdis, TASS reports.

According to Smaragdis, the ministries of culture of the three indicated countries will take part in the project. Filming is scheduled in St. Petersburg, several regions of Greece, as well as in Geneva and Lausanne. In the spring, the director plans to come to Russia to get acquainted with the filming locations, which will take place in a year, since the filmmakers need a winter nature.

Work on the project has been going on for several years, and, according to the initial plans, filming was supposed to come to an end, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, intentions had to be adjusted. The director used the pause to refine the script.

In the film, Kapodistrias will appear as an outstanding Russian diplomat, as well as a Greek ruler, while the film will highlight the important role of Russia in the liberation of Greece in the 19th century.
