The Cherry Orchard play by Anton Chekhov was shown on the first day of the theater festival, which opened in Avignon (France), TASS reports. The French actress Isabelle Huppert, who has been studying Russian since her school years, took the stage.

The Avignon Festival opened for the 75th time the day before, July, 5. It is one of the oldest cultural forums in Europe. Portuguese director Thiago Rodrigues, who will take over as director from next September, replacing Olivier Py, called this festival "the most beautiful in the world."
