Russian saber fencer Sofia Pozdnyakova wins gold in Tokyo Olympics

A Russian athlete has won another gold at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, TASS reports. It went to saber fencer Sofia Pozdnyakova. In the final battle, she defeated her compatriot Sophia Velikaya, who got a silver medal.

Sophia Velikaya conceded one step away from the Olympic gold for the 3rd time in a row now. In 2012, she lost to South Korean Kim Ji Young. At the next tournament, her rival was Russian woman Yana Yegoryan, who became the Olympic champion.

Sofia Pozdnyakova's gold became for the ROC national team, Velikaya's award - the 5th silver medal. The team also has three bronze medals. Thus, the team is on the sixth line in the Olympic medal standings.
