Arctic Council supports Russian-Norwegian project on digitalization of Arctic cultural heritage

The Northern (Arctic) Federal University from Arkhangelsk has proposed to implement a project to preserve the architectural heritage of the Arctic. It is being developed jointly with representatives of the University of Tromsø - the Arctic University of Norway. The project was supported by the Arctic Council Working Group.

The authors have developed new approaches to the preservation and popularization of objects of the architectural heritage of the region. In particular, it is proposed to use virtual and augmented reality (VIAR) technologies.

The digitalization of the linguistic and cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples of the Arctic became one of the topics of discussion at the meeting of the working group. The group participants outlined working plans until 2023.
