UNESCO praised Russia's contribution to organization

The head of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, highly appreciated the activities carried out by Russia within the framework of the organization, TASS reports. She recalled that, since the times of the Soviet Union, Russia has  remained committed to fulfilling the goals of UNESCO.

UNESCO has a very dense and rich program of cooperation with Russian educational centers and scientific organizations. The program of UNESCO Chairs in Russian universities is also developing.
 
This year, Moscow and UNESCO have recently established the Dmitry Mendeleev award. It celebrates the achievements of researchers in the field of of biology, physiology, chemistry, geology. The prize is awarded to the authors of breakthrough discoveries and outstanding innovations.
 
The first laureates were the Russian physicist Yuri Oganesyan and the Italian chemist Vincenzo Balzani. They were awarded at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The hall was filled with scientists and diplomats from different countries. The ceremony took place on November 15.
