Festival of Russian art ''Russia - Italy. Through the Ages'' has started in Rome, TASS reports. The festival is timed to the day of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine, which is celebrated on December 8. An Orthodox church in Rome was consecrated in her honor.

The first performance on the festival program was the performance of young Russian soloists. Novice artists performed works by Italian composers. They took to the stage of the Abamelek Villa, the official residence of the Russian Ambassador.

The program also included the ''Tolstoy and Dostoevsky: Dialogue at a Distance'' exhibition at the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo. According to Daria Pushkova, head of the Russian House, the exhibition is dedicated to the Fyodor Dostoevsky's 200th anniversary.

It is planned that the exhibition will later meet to Verona and Merano.
