Russian experts have created a new test system aimed at identifying the omicron strain of coronavirus, Interfax reports. According to the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova, the system is now being tested in South Africa.

Earlier, the plane of the Ministry of Emergency Situations delivered virologists and a mobile laboratory landed at the Johannesburg airport on December 14.

Scientists from Russia will study the characteristics of the new strain of the virus found in South Africa. In addition, they will acquaint colleagues with the experience of dealing with the disease, which they have gained at home.

In Russia, almost 20 people have been infected with the omicron strain; they came from South Africa and neighboring countries. In total, 180 people were isolated.
