Swiss Niva Red Legend team wins Dakar rally

The Swiss Niva Red Legend team has won the Dakar 2022 multi-day rally marathon in a Lada Niva car. The Lada brand helped the team develop a retro style of the 1980s, when riders on Soviet Niva cars took part in off-road rallies, Izvestia reports.

Lada Niva, built in 1984 was bought by the pilot of the Niva Red Legend Team Mario Jacober from his wife's relatives in Novosibirsk. The car was equipped with a roll cage, sports steering wheel and specially designed seats for racing. The engine and other technical features of the Niva, including a manual transmission, were retained in accordance with the rules of the competition.

The car received a special coloring, reminiscent of the Niva's racing past, and the number "763", which is the automobile index of the Samara region, where the car is assembled.

The 6,000 kilometers Dakar rally lasted two weeks.
