Four Russian museums have entered the top 10 of the most visited museums of fine arts in the world, RIA Novosti reports. The rating for 2021 was compiled by The Art Newspaper.

The Russian Museum took the second place, conceding only to the Louvre, which was visited by more than 2.8 million people. More than 2.2 million people visited the Russian Museum during the year. This is almost 90% more than the number of visitors in 2020, when the pandemic started.

The top three is closed by the Multimedia Art Museum (MAMM). Its attendance was 2.2 million people. Museum director Olga Sviblova noted that now the interest in the museum has increased.

The 6th line was taken by the St. Petersburg Hermitage Museum. It outstripped two American museums - New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and Washington's National Gallery of Art. The Hermitage was visited by 1.64 million people - the 70% increase compared to last year's figures.

The Tretyakov Gallery was 9th in the ranking with 1,5 million visitors.
