The marathon of Anton Chekhov's plays began in France, the Izvestia newspaper writes. It is held by a theater in Alfortville, a suburb of the French capital. As part of the project, viewers will see 15 plays based on the plays by the great Russian writer. The marathon will continue for three months.

The festival is directed by Christian Benedetti. Chekhov's work has long since become his life's work. The director has been staging classic plays for almost 50 years.

According to Benedetti, there was no such project that would unite "the whole Chekhov" before in France. The director is sure that the Chekhov theater is the best in the world. Christian Benedetti calls the Chekhov theater "the highest manifestation of theatrical art." He also plans to go on stage himself in "Uncle Vanya", "Three Sisters", "The Cherry Orchard", "The Seagull" and "Ivanov".
