Russian artist, book illustrator Anastasia Arkhipova has decided to resign as chairman of the jury of the Basel International Council on Children's Books (IBBY) after pressure from representatives of Western countries, RBC reports.

The Russian woman was elected as the chairman of the jury of the Hans Christian Andersen Award, which has been honoring the authors of children's books for more than 60 years. The artist created illustrations for classics of children's literature from Russia and other countries, she was previously included in the IBBY Honorary List.

Representatives of a number of Western countries explained their dissatisfaction with the fact that the illustrator is on the board of the Moscow branch of the Union of Artists of Russia, which held a patriotic creative competition. Attempts were made to remove Anastasia Arkhipova from the post of chairman of the jury, during the disputes, the Danish Queen Margrethe the Second announced that she would not patronize the award.
