Representatives of 16 countries have been included in the long list of the Yasnaya Polyana Prize in the Foreign Literature category, TASS reports. Among them are writers from Chile, Iceland, Colombia, Iraq, Germany, Finland and other countries. The long list includes 30 works. The names of the authors who will become finalists will be announced in the summer.

The long list is formed by literary critics, translators and publishers. The short one will be composed by the members of the jury.

It is gratifying that almost all regions of the world are represented in the long list this year, experts noted. They assured that most of the authors are well known to Russian readers.

The names of the prize winners will be announced in the fall, the best author will be awarded 1.2 million rubles ($15,500) 500,000 rubles ($6,500) will be awarded to the translator of their work into Russian.

The award is presented in several categories. The main one is "Modern Russian prose". The jury determines the best from a list compiled based on the opinions of representatives of publishing houses, literary magazines, awards and creative unions.

The winner of the special Readers' Choice Award will be able to travel to South Korea.

Another novelty of the season was the "Missed Masterpieces" nomination. It will highlight works of world literature that were written a long time ago, but did not receive the deserved attention and became known in Russia after the death of the author. The translator of the book into Russian will be awarded in the nomination.
