The Day of Russian Literature took place the day before, on May, 3, as part of the international book fair in Tunisia, TASS reports. According to the head of the Russian House Yuri Zaitsev, the initiative came from the organizers. He explained that the Russian language is becoming more and more popular in the country, and interest in Russian culture is also growing. Russia enthusiastically supported this idea. The program was developed by the Tunisian Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature, the Higher Institute of Languages with the assistance of the Russian Embassy and the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo.

The book exhibition in Tunisia is a notable event in the cultural life of the North African country, Yuri Zaitsev noted. It became the 37th in a row. Almost 300 publishing houses from more than 200 countries are taking part in it.

As part of the Day of Russian Literature, issues of teaching the Russian language were discussed. Much attention was paid to the creative heritage of Alexander Pushkin. With students studying Russian and their teachers, the topic of reading Pushkin's works in Arabic was raised.

Another important topic was the role and place of Russian literature in the Arab world, the literary heritage of Russian emigrants of the first wave, preserved in the Arab countries and, in particular, in Tunisia.

The highlight of the program was the performance of the students of the Diaghilev Ballet School.
