Conference on role of Cossacks in Russian victories during Napoleonic Wars opened in Paris

An international scientific and practical conference dedicated to the Cossacks during the Napoleonic Wars has opened in Paris. The historical forum is being held for the 5th time by the Russian House of Science and Culture  with the assistance of the Russian Embassy in France, the telegram channel of the Russian House reports.

The conference participants discussed historical issues related to the Cossacks during the Patriotic War of 1812 and the Liberation Campaign of the Russian Army in 1813-1814. The forum brought together scientists, specialists, descendants of the Cossacks from European countries, as well as Argentina, Venezuela and Colombia.

In addition, the participants were joined by representatives of the Union of Cossack Warriors of Russia and Abroad, Cossack organizations in France and other countries, Russian government agencies.

At the opening ceremony of the conference, the address of the Russian Ambassador to France Alexei Meshkov was read, who highly appreciated the contribution of the Cossacks to the victory of the Russian army over Napoleon and in wars of other eras.

The diplomat stressed that the Cossacks traditionally defended the Russian state, being its reliable support and "patriotic avant-garde". The Ambassador recalled that in the suburbs of the French capital - Courbevoie - there is the unique Museum of the Life Guards of the Cossack Regiment, which was founded thanks to the descendants of Russian officers.
