Residents of Estonia appealed to the European Parliament (EP) with a request to help lift the ban on Russian citizens entering the country. The petition was submitted to the profile committee by MEP Yana Toom. People are calling on the European Parliament to force Tallinn to allow Russians to enter the country to visit close relatives, TASS reports.

The authors of the appeal believe that the actions of the Estonian authorities violate human rights and contradict fundamental European values.

The document was signed by residents of Estonia, who faced unreasonable restrictions from the authorities. They are supplemented by almost 30 stories of families affected by the ban.

The MEP noted that she wants to show to Brussels that the humanitarian exceptions promised by Tallinn do not really work.

Earlier, the ban on the entry of Russian citizens came into force in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Finland and the Czech Republic. It also applies to residents of Belarus. Restrictions apply to holders of Schengen visas issued in other countries that are members of the European Union.

Brussels' decision to suspend the visa facilitation with Russia came into effect on September, 12. The number of Schengen visas for Russians decreased, the process of obtaining became longer. Each country - a member of the EU - determines the procedure for the admission of Russians to the territory of the Schengen zone through its borders on its own.
