The names of the winners of the Benois de la Danse award, which is rightfully called the Oscar for ballet dancers, were announced the day before, June, 20, TASS reports. The solemn ceremony took place on the Historical Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre. The award has been presented for almost 30 years.

Five people became its owners. They received a statuette by the sculptor Igor Ustinov, a descendant of the Benois family, who lives in France.

The best dancer was the representative of the Paris Opera Ballet Hugo Marchand. He was awarded for his performance of the part of Prince Rudolph in the Mayerling play. In the women's nomination, two ballerinas were chosen at once: Qiu Yunting from the Chinese National Ballet for the role of Tatyana in the Onegin ballet and Mison Kang from the South Korean Universal Ballet, who danced the part of the widow in the production of Mirinaegil.

For the production of Dancemania at the Bolshoi Theater, the title of the best choreographer went to the Russian choreographer Vyacheslav Samodurov.

Choreographer Mikhail Lavrovsky became the winner in the For Life in Art nomination. According to him, as early as next season, visitors to the Bolshoi Theater will be able to see Romeo and Juliet, an updated version of the ballet by his father Leonid Lavrovsky.

As Russkiy Mir reported, this year the jury is headed by the famous ballerina Svetlana Zakharova. She replaced Yuri Grigorovich, who was in charge of the project since its beginning. The legendary choreographer became the president of the festival.

The work of the nominees was evaluated by an international jury, its composition changes every year. This year, it included ballet teacher Leonid Sarafanov, artistic director of the ballet of the Kazakh Abai Gulzhan Tutkibayeva Opera and Ballet Theater, Tien Ryu, who is part of the management of the South Korean company Universal Ballet, chief choreographer of the National Ballet of China Fei Bo and others.
