Numerous events dedicated to the Day of Memory and Sorrow are held throughout Russia, TASS reports. Residents of new regions also joined them. This year marks the 82nd anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. In memory of the victims, state flags are flown at half mast throughout the country, and entertainment events are not held. The funeral wreath-laying ceremony with the participation of the country's authorities is taking place in the capital at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

At dawn on June 22, 1941, Nazi Germany attacked the Soviet Union without declaring war. All the might of Europe fell upon the country. The actions of the Nazis were supported by Romania, Italy, Slovakia, Finland, Hungary, Norway. The Soviet people stood up to their death to defend their Fatherland.

The terrible war, which lasted 1418 days, ended on May 9, 1945. The fascist bloc was completely crushed.

The USSR lost almost 27 million people, which is about 40% of the total losses in World War II.

The invaders destroyed more than 1700 cities and towns, more than 70,000 villages and villages. Never before in history has there been such destruction, barbarism and inhumanity.

For the fourth year in a row, the country is united by a moment of silence. It starts at 12:15 Moscow time. At this time, 82 years ago, the Soviet government addressed the citizens of the country with a message about the German attack.
