Primorye dancers to bring Sleeping Beauty ballet to North Korea

Residents of North Korea will see Tchaikovsky’s ballet The Sleeping Beauty, TASS reports.The Primorsky Stage troupe of the Mariinsky Theater will bring it to the country. Tours are planned for next spring.

According to the head of Primorye Oleg Kozhemyako, theater specialists have already visited the country and examined the stage. The governor added that tickets will be distributed free of charge.

The performance was attended by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. He watched the ballet in Vladivostok in September. He was joined by Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia Alexander Kozlov, Governor of Primorye Oleg Kozhemyako, and the Russian Ambassador to the DPRK Alexander Matsegora.

Governor of Primorye Oleg Kozhemyako assured that the region is ready to accept children from the DPRK to study at the choreographic and music schools of the region. He hopes that Korean dancers will introduce the people of their country to the masterpieces of Russian ballet.
