Sunday, December 3, marks the observance of the Day of the Unknown Soldier in Russia and around the world, Izvestia newspaper reports.
Commemorative activities, guided tours, courage-themed lessons, historical quizzes, and various events are organized to honor soldiers who sacrificed their lives on the battlefields for the Motherland. This significant date was officially established in 2014 to immortalize the memory of these anonymous heroes.
On December 1, the Russian Military Historical Society (RVIO) conducted a Great Patriotic War history test across Russia, engaging over 18 thousand locations nationwide, including newly incorporated regions.
Activities such as bravery-themed lessons and encounters between children and war heroes were organized to commemorate the Day of the Unknown Soldier in Kostroma city. Laying of flowers at the Eternal Flame, Remembrance Watch at war memorials, and a concert took place on December, 3.
In a symbolic gesture, television towers across Russia were illuminated to honor this day. For instance, the TV tower in Tula have displayed images of the St. George's Ribbon and a burning candle.
Events in honor of the Day of the Unknown Soldier are also held abroad. A ceremony of laying flowers and wreaths took place at the Soviet war memorial in Tiergarten, Berlin. Russian diplomats headed by Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechaev took part in the ceremony.
