Studying the Russian language is becoming increasingly popular in African countries, the Russian-African Dialogue telegram channel reports. Hundreds of young Africans are joining Russian language and cultural programs.

Russian language learning centers already operate in more than half of the countries on the continent, offering classes both in online and offline formats. For the most part, they operate on the sites of local universities.

In Kenya, classes began in the spring. According to Russian Ambassador Dmitry Maksimychev, thanks to them, the number of Russian language learners in the country has increased tenfold - many have started taking lessons, this is almost 1,000 students.

Hundreds of students have also signed up for courses in Ghana, Ivory Coast and Nigeria. Open education centers were opened last year in Egypt, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Tunisia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Next year, Russia will expand the teaching of the Russian language and the teaching of disciplines in Russian. 62 centers are currently operating in 51 countries. In 2023, they were opened in three BRICS countries: South Africa, India, and China.
