Russian poet Lev Rubinstein passed away

Russian poet Lev Rubinstein, a key figure in the Soviet underground literary scene has passed away six days after being hit by a car in Moscow on January, 14, RIA Novosti reports.

Rubenstein grew up in Russia's capital, where he studied language and literature at Moscow State University and then worked as a librarian. In the 1970s and 1980s, he was part of the underground literary scene. He is considered one of the founders of Moscow Conceptualism.

His first works were published in the Soviet Union only in the late 1980s. After the USSR collapse his poems were widely translated and published all over the world.

The poet is famous for writing short sentences on perforated cards and reciting these note-card poems on stage.
