Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin signed the decree on establishing the North (Arctic) State University in Arkhangelsk. The university will have special focus on development of mineral resource, oil and gas.
The program of development of the North State University is focused on training specialists and intensive research activity for future Arctic development. According to the Vice Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region Elena Kudryashova, the new university is going to launch seven educational programs and enroll 700 students in the department of mineral resources, oil and gas development.
Eight educational programs will be launched and 1500 students enrolled to study shipbuilding and construction of offshore oil and gas facilities. Fifteen programs are to be started and 1500 students enrolled to study comprehensive use of bio-resources. Another 18 educational programs will be developed for training specialists in construction and exploitation of coastal infrastructure.
There are plans for state universities of the national level to be established in all federal districts of Russia. Russia now has seven federal universities: Far East State University in Vladivostok, Siberian State University in Krasnoyarsk, Northeast State University in Yakutsk, Urals State University in Yekaterinburg, Volga State University in Kazan, South State University in Rostov and now North (Arctic) State University in Arkhangelsk.
