Memory of the Heart

19.05.2015

At the concert hall at Finland Station in St. Petersburg the ninth volume of the book “Memory of the Heart” was presented. The publication was supported by the Russkiy Mir Foundation.

“Memory of the Heart” is a series of books published by the Piskarevka municipal district since 2009. To date the series has collected the memories of 599 frontline soldiers, survivors of the siege of Leningrad, laborers on the home front, prisoners of fascist concentration camps and children of the war.

The stories in the collection were gathered like pieces of a mosaic, from the most vivid and significant moments in the memories of the authors: “War through the Eyes of a Soldier” – the memories of Magrup Isabekov, a prisoner of fascist prison camps; an article by MSU Professor Vladimir Tomsinov; the wartime notes of General Makhmut Gareev.  A special place was given in the book to the “Immortal Regiment” of Piskarevka.

Participants of the presentation ceremony included veterans of the Great Patriotic War and survivors of the blockade of Leningrad, Head of the Piskarevka Council of Veterans of War and Labor Alla Samokhvalova, museum workers, young artists of the Atlant House of Youth, cadets of the local military school and students studying at St. Petersburg Technical College.
