Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Tomsk and Novosibirsk are on the list of the best world cities for students, RIA Novosti reports. The best result among Russian cities was demonstrated by the Russian capital – Moscow is ranked 39th, which is four lines higher as compared to the last year. Saint Petersburg occupies 78th place, Tomsk is 91st on the list and Novosibirsk is two lines below.
Experts from British company QS Quacquarelli Symonds worked on this rating. They had to assess the situation in 125 cities. The research was performed in 6 directions: city popularity, university rankings, financial factor, percent of international students and employers’ interest were among the main factors. Students’ opinion was taken into consideration as well.
The rating developers noted that Russian cities have low percent of international students. Moscow has higher rank on this criterion than other cities; it takes 64th place among other cities. At the same time, the Russian capital has improved the “City popularity” category, which implies quality of life, environmental pollution, corruption and safety.
Russian cities are rather cheap for student’s life. Saint Petersburg and Tomsk are the most comfortable in this respect, they share the 7th place, Novosibirsk takes 18th place and Moscow is number 48 on the list.
