Immortal Regiment monument opened in Tula, ahead of the Day of Victory in World War 2, TASS reports. Tula Oblast is located 190 kilometers south of Moscow. During the WW2 Tula city was important in the production of armaments. In 1941, the city became the target of a German offensive attack to break the Soviet resistance but has stopped German troops and secured the southern flank during the Battle of Moscow. For this Tula was awarded the title Hero City.

The Immortal Regiment monument has the shape of 7-meter banner covered with pictures of soldiers who took part in World War 2. This photo collage is made out of ancestors photographs that Tula Oblast locals downloaded to the Immortal Regiment website.

At the opening ceremony Tula mayor Alexey Dumin recalled that one of the very important borders of defence was set through the city center, where now the Victory Alley is located.

The composition of the monument is based on the famous photograph Victory Banner by A. Kapustiansky.
