English translation of the Leningrad Siege poets nominated for Read Russia Award

сайт премииNames of the Read Russia award nominees for Russian literature translation were announced, Rospechyat reports. The award is going to be presented in following nominations: Classical Literature of 19th Century, 20th Century Literature, Contemporary Russian Literature, Poetry.

Books were issued by three dozens publishing houses, mostly in English language.

One of nominees is Poems Written in the Dark anthology comprising poems written in Leningrad during its WW2 blockade. The Leningrad Siege poems are published in original Russian version with corresponding English translation.

Read Russia award’s short list includes such novels as Admiration by Ilyazd and The House Where... by Mariam Petroysan, Nadezjda Teffi's memoirs, collection of Russian emigrants' stories From Bunin to Yankovsky.

Prominent writers, Russian language specialists, and translators participate in the jury. Main goal of this contest is a popularization of Russian literature, translators and foreign publishing agencies that issue Russian writers’ books.

The winner to be announced in the spring. The award ceremony to take place in London which will be timed with the major book fair in the British capital.
