Vladimir Putin sends his greetings to WARP

The World Congress of Russian Press has started on September 24.  TASS reports. This year the forum marks its 20th anniversary. It takes place in Brooklyn, the most Russian-populated New York district. About 200 people gathered there. Journalists of Russian media from more than 50 countries are accompanied with Russian politicians and social activists.

The forum is aimed to define the role of Russian media in communities' life. According to the organizers, mass media have a great role in the multinational cultural preservation and language identity of Russian compatriots. Moreover, the congress' agenda includes the issues of media coverage in Russia and abroad, creation of Russia's positive image, problem in protection of compatriots' right for information access and for speaking Russian.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin congratulated participants and guests of the forum. In his message, he called the Congress an excellent opportunity for a dialogue between representatives of Russian-language printed and electronic media around the world. According to the head of the state, the work of the media is very important, especially today, when an extremely difficult situation develops on the international arena.

Vladimir Putin noted that now it is necessary to "exercise a responsible public position, strictly follow the principles of journalistic ethics, firmly resist any attempts to distort facts for the sake of someone's political or other interests, maintain the trust of a multimillion Russian-speaking audience."

World Association of Russian Press President Vitaly Ignatenko comprised the congress with the "world short-meeting". He recalled that there are Russian-language press in more than 80 countries.
